Merry Christmas!

Hello! I'm very sorry for neglecting my blog for the past few days. It's Christmastime, what can I say? Between the last minute shopping, wrapping of gifts and the oldest being out of school on Christmas break, there has been no extra time in my day. I hope to get back to a semi normal posting schedule soon, I promise. In the meantime, I hope you and your families enjoy a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. One deal tip to remember, almost all stores will have Christmas and gift items on sale at least 50% off on the day after Christmas. Don't forget to stock up for birthdays and holidays for next year!

The boys with Santa

Okay, I didn't expect miracles with the Santa picture this year. In fact, I was almost certain their would be tears so I refused to pay the large amount that the malls charge. I found out that Bass Pro Shops have a Santa as well as a "winter wonderland" for the kids to play in, not to mention that the picture is FREE!! We got there yesterday and there were only 3 people in line ahead of us- SCORE! We got the picture taken- not too bad- made candy cane reindeer, played with RC cars, and colored a Christmas themed coloring page- all for FREE! Woohoo! Jackpot! I encourage you to check it out if you have little ones and dread the mall scene (and prices) like I do. Happy Holidays!

Kota the Triceratops Dinosaur

I don't normally advocate such large purchases at Christmas time, and we don't normally have the money, but Toys R Us has got this thing on sale right now for $99.98!!! If you have seen this thing and had your kids drool over it then you know they normally retail for over $300!! This is an awesome deal! I called my local TRU store and they have them in stock for that price, but you may want to verify it with yours before you head out. They have them online for the same price, but shipping is almost $80. Bummer. I wanted to miss the crowds! Russ is going to go on his lunch break to snag it for the kids. This will be their only "BIG" present and they will only receive a few other small ones. But to me it will be worth it to see the looks on their faces on Christmas morning!

Things you Didn't know about Me!

I thought I would share a little bit more about me today with everyone! I’ve been reading about some of my other blog friends this morning and they have inspired me to write this post, so here goes.

50 Things About Me (because I don’t have time to do 100!):

1. I am a mother to 3 boys.
2. I am a wife to a British husband. ( I bought him off eBay! LOL)
3. I love the color pink.
4. I love roses.
5. I’m a hopeless romantic at heart.
6. I LOVE Starbucks!
7. I’ve always wanted to travel to Italy.
8. I love Mexican and Italian food.
9. I love to cook.
10. I like comedy movies.
11. I like scary movies!
12. I am a daughter.
13. I am an aunt.
14. I am a sister.
15. I am the oldest of 5 children.
16. Christmas is my favorite time of the year.
17. I love to take pictures.
18. Owning my own business has always been a dream of mine. I would like to own a wedding planning/catering business.
19. I attended college at the University of Memphis.
20. I clip coupons religiously.
21. I love to find a bargain or good deal. I’m all about being frugal!
22. I hate Home Depot and Lowe’s. Not girly enough for me I suppose.
23. I know more about cars than A LOT of men.
24. I love to shop!
25. I love candles and other home “smell good.”
26. My new favorite scent is Pink Buttercream Frosting by Jaqua. YUMMY!

Don't forget to check your Dollar Tree!

Don't forget to check your local Dollar Tree (or other dollar stores) at least once a week for new deals. I went in to my store last week to pick up some wrapping paper and found Russ's favorite deodorant for a buck! This stuff is over $3 at Walmart even with a coupon. I ended up getting 8 cans, so that should last him a while. The moral of the story is you never know what deal you will find at your local dollar store!

Late Night Kroger Run

I made a late last minute run to Kroger on Friday night for a couple of deals before Russ and I left town for the night. I posted several weeks ago about how Pedigree would send FREE pet food coupons to anyone who had adopted a pet. Since we adopted our dog from the shelter I sent in all of the paperwork. Friday afternoon I had a coupon for a FREE 20lb bag of Pedigree dog food as well as 4 FREE cans or pouches of dog food. I took these to use at Kroger and while I was there I checked their clearance shelves. They had dented cans of Chef Boyardee raviolis for .45 per can! My kids love these and get them for lunches on the weekends or dinner occasionally. I thought .45 per can was a steal considering they are normally well over $1 each. If I'd had some of the $1/3 coupons to use it would have been a better deal, but alas I did not. Here's what I ended up with:

6~ cans dog food

1~20 lb bag of dog food

7~cans of ravioli

Total Before Coupons: $24.18
Total Money Spent: $3.15
Total Saved: $21.03 (87%)

Wacky Walgreens Deals

Wow! The Walgreens deals last week with the mid week ad were fabulous! I was able to take advantage of some of the good deals, especially the Coke deal. I had ordered some BOGO 12 pack coupons from eBay prior to knowing about the sale. Here's how it ended up with 3 trips:

7~Walitin 10 ct. box

4~Revlon make up

2~Reach toothbrushes

12~Coke 12 packs

1~gift bags 3pk

2~boxes Kleenex tissue

1~bubble knee highs

3~tissue paper

*Sorry- I ended up only taking a picture of one of my WAGS trips.*

Total Before Coupons: $105.20
Total Money Spent: $18.31
Total Saved: $86.89 (82.6%)

I actually got a better deal than this because I still have $10 in RR to spend! So, if you take those into account, I actually got everything listed for $8.31!! WOW!

Target Trips and Deals

I made several trips to Target in the past 2 weeks to get all of these deals. I went back several times looking for the Archer Farms ham steaks to no avail. I finally asked the manager if they would consider substituting since I had been to their store 3 times and they still did not have them in stock. (We only have 1 Super Target here.) Much to my surprise he said yes he would and gave me the same price per pound on the substitution! Awesome customer service!

Since I have so many receipts, I am going to list everything I bought and then give you the pictures at the end. Here goes:

I ended up with:
20~ Pepsi 12 packs
1~ head of broccoli
15~ packs of various Sutton & Dodge beef (steaks, roasts, etc.)
14~ ham steaks
26~ Archer Farms small bags of coffee
1~ box of cold medicine
1~ Pillsbury cookie dough
2~ Archer Farms yogurt (If you have not tried the Sugar Cookie flavor- GO.TO.TARGET.NOW!)
1~ bag of gummy worms (had my son with me that day)
7~ Goody Ouchless products

Total Before Coupons: $228.92
Total Money Spent: $91.19
Total Saved: $137.73 (60.2%)

The percentage here isn't as great as I would like, but for meat products I think it's really good.

Kmart Doubles Trip

I know, I am so far behind with posting! I am very sorry! I am trying to do better with my deals and getting them posted so you have time to get the same deals. Things just come up sometimes. Thanks for understanding. :)

I made 2 trips this last time for doubles. There weren't a lot of deals to be had since my Kmart is no only a Big K versus a Super K. They are no longer going to have groceries with the exception of a very limited amount of items. I was able to get some deals because what food items they did have were marked down 40% off. I had a bunch of $1 off coupons for Philly cream cheese, so that combined with the 40% netted me FREE cream cheese of all varities. I also got quite a few free Loreal eye shadows. These will come in handy for Christmas baskets!

Please forgive me, but I have misplaced my receipt. I do remember that I ended up paying less than $30 for everything here.

**I have more deal posts coming this afternoon and evening, so come on back by and check them out!**

Christmas Lights @ Graceland

Russ LOVES any and all things Elvis or Graceland related. Sadly I don't feel the same way. *GASP* I know, I know- how can you live in the city of "The King" and not be in love with him? I don't dislike Elvis's music, I actually like quite a bit of it. I simply am not quite as enthused about as some people. I've been to Graceland twice and that's enough for me. Russ on the other hand could go daily and it not be enough. We are total opposites- go figure. Anyway, because my husband is as awesome as he is, I give in occasionally and make the drive out to Graceland so Russ can get his "fix." :) We went the other day since they have turned on the Christmas lights. Here are the pictures that ensued:

AuPairCare: Live-In Childcare

Thanks to MomSelect I was introduced to an interesting concept- live-in childcare. Now that concept in itself isn't new, but the idea of live-in childcare with the care giver being from a different country is an interesting one. Children are able to learn first hand about other cultures, languages and ways of life. It's a service I would love to be able to provide for my children (and for me..lol), but our budget does not allow it. However, if yours does, I have an awesome giveaway for you! I have a certificate for a free application fee ($300 value) available to the first person who leave me a comment asking for it! How easy is that? Even if you may be interested in the future, make sure you check out their site: http://www.aupaircare.com/.

Be a VIP at Best Buy on Black Friday

This is possibly the coolest contest I've seen in a while. Best Buy is having a contest for the best story about your day after Thanksgiving. The winner will receive VIP treatment on Black Friday including:

~A $1,000 Best Buy gift card
VIP treatment at the designated Best Buy store closest to you, including:
~A limo ride to and from Best Buy on the morning after Thanksgiving
~On-site pampering and prizes for the winner and three guests
~Early admittance into the store at 4:30 a.m. – a half hour before anyone else!
~The ability to purchase up to four Black Friday doorbusters
~A Pure Digital Flip Video Ultra Series Camcorder to document the Black Friday VIP experience

How cool is that?!? I've entered this for us, but they are only doing this for 25 major cities. You have to be within 40 miles of the store, as they will not provide transportation any further. I entered anyway! Heck if we win, we will drive the 6 hours to Atlanta!! Go here to enter for your chance to win!

UPDATE! A New Giveaway & FREE Stuff!

*** Ann is the proud winner of this giveaway! I have notified Ann by email of her winnings!***

Thanks to MomSelect we have a new giveaway! It's an awesome new product called Mobistories! MobiStories makes digital books for children. Books are available to purchase in numerous download formats to be played using your iPhone, iPod, Macintosh and Windows computer, DVD’s, MP3’s, Zune, iTunes, YouTube, Viddler, Revver, MySpace, and FaceBook. Each of these illustrated stories is narrated and contains music too. The site offers a lot of different selections specifically for children ages 1 to 10 years old. A brief preview of each of the stories including sound and picture is available on the site.

I think this is a great concept for families on the go. I consider them a little pricey, but worth the money if you have the equipment to play the stories already and need entertainment for the kids on a regular basis.

MobiStories is generously offering my readers up to $15.00 in downloads for free. Simply go to MobiStories.com and select books from the library and use promotion code BSM142A at checkout.

MobiStories and MomSelect has also generously given me another code, good for $20, to give to the winner of this giveaway. To enter, visit the MobiStories site and then leave a comment on this post telling me the name of one book you’d purchase if you won and who you’d purchase it for. To receive an extra entry, post about this giveaway on your blog and then come back here and leave me a comment telling me you have done so. Good luck!

Contest ends Friday 11/07/08 at 12:00pm CST. Comments must contain the requested information to be eligible. The winner will be selected at random and they must contact me to confirm they wish to receive the prize within 2 days of my email notifying them they’ve won.

The only thing free this week was chocolate milk!

The sales recently have left a lot to be desired, but that's not for lack of wanting that's for sure. It's simply that time of year. The sales should pick back up soon; usually around Thanksgiving from what I've read over on Hot Coupon World. Until then, we have to get the deals we can! This week Kroger had a couple of decent deals, but FREE Nesquik chocolate milk was the hit here at our house, and the one I had 50 coupons for! We ended up with quite the milk stockpile considering they do not expire until January. Here's the math:

Total Before Coupons: $54.63
Total Money Spent: $4.63

What She Said..

****LANGUAGE ALERT: NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN!!****

The following post is not suitable for children to read as there is some language that I wouldn't want mine to read/hear.

I love reading Undomestic Diva! She's funny and very much to the point, plus she LOVES Starbucks. How could you not like her? :) Her post today is an awesome one, and she said exactly how I feel some days. Here is it:

~From kicking ass to wiping ass:

Life is not the same once you're old and married and have kids.
I remember our Saturdays used to entail nothing more involved than lying in bed, in pajamas, watching episode after episode of Cold Case Files or Forensic Files while arguing the best way to kill a person without getting caught.
Now, weekends are contaminated with household fix-it projects, soccer games and chores. There is no more sleeping in or ordering out for food, no more spontaneous adventures, fulfilling of sudden urges or being lazy for the sake of being lazy.
God, I miss lazy.
I'm not sure when weekends went from hoping we had plans to hoping we don't. At some point we went from buying ourselves nice clothes to bringing home the toilet that promises to flush a bucket of golf balls - with the same excitement.
The television is no longer ours, it's permanently tuned to cartoons and prepubescent tweens and the kids now know how to work a remote control, the DVD player, an iPod and a cell phone better than either of us.
We went from being young, smart and up-and-coming, to being the parents of kids who are young, smart and up-and-coming. Essentially, we went from kicking ass, to wiping ass.
As I look at the golf ball toilet that apparently doesn't fit within our bathroom after all, it's easy to wonder if this is as good as it gets... toilets that don't clog? Surely, this isn't the metaphor for my life, right?
There are lots of these little moments, when you wonder to yourself if this life, the one you're merely stumbling through each day, is what you wanted, had in mind, pictured.
But then life goes to shit, real shit, and you find yourself in a heap of pathetic on your couch, trying to keep it together because, goddamn it, you have no other choice. And in waddles your two year old who it takes three attempts to climb up on the couch next to you, but he finally makes it, cuddling up to you, happily pulling your arm over him and nuzzling up to you and you realize that no, this is what it's all about, right here, right now, living this small little particle of a moment on your couch. It's almost an epiphany, a sudden understanding, knowing that what it all comes down to is not clog-free toilets and excitement, kicking ass or knowing how to kill a man without being caught, but about savoring the unfiltered joy that trickles in between all the crap. ~

Does anyone cloth diaper anymore?

More and more moms are from what I am reading! I've always been of the mind that disposables were the way to go. My oldest 2 used nothing but disposables and I figured why should Jack be any different? Well, we were invited to test out some bumGenius one size fits all cloth diapers. They are bright, colorful and well made. Today is our first day using them, and to be honest, they aren't nearly as bad as I thought they would be. Jack seems to like them! I will keep you updated during our trial run of these and let you know what we make of them. You can check them out at the websites below:

Trunk or Treat?

We took the kids to a local church this evening for thier annual "trunk or treat" and fall festival. Basically the kids go around to all of the member's cars and receive candy from the trunks which are usually brightly decorated. The kids always have a blast and it's lots of fun for us as well. I'll post more pictures tomorrow, but I wanted to share Russ's victory with you all this evening. I talkd him into a donut eating contest, and he WON!! It was truly the funniest thing i've seen in a while, and thanks to modern technology, so can you! Enjoy the video!

Cheap Beef from Omaha Steaks.com!

Many thanks to Catherine at Catherine Wheels for this awesome post! Seriously, this is the best deal I've seen in a long time - you get five and a half pounds of ground steak for 36 cents a pound! Delivered straight to your house! The details are below:

1) Go to this link to sign up for the Geico website. You do NOT have to have Geico, you do NOT have to switch any of your insurance. It just gives you a username for their website, and they will email you within an hour or so with a link to a gift card code. Check your spam folder if you don't get the email after two hours or so. The gift card number is really long, so double check when you write it down.

2) Go to this link and type in your email address. They will send you an email confirmation right away, and there is a link within the email to start shopping. After you get your gift card code from step one, use that link to order the hamburgers (described below) and it will automatically give you 12 free 4 ounce burgers. The 12 free won't show up in your cart until you check out, so don't panic.(Update: link from step 2 should be fixed now)

3) When you get your gift card code and go to the link through the step two link, you'll be at the Omaha Steaks website. In the left hand sidebar, click on the link for "burgers/brats" etc. Scroll down until you see the option for "eight 5 ounce steak burgers" for 12.99. Add that to your cart, then checkout. (Note: apparently the $12.99 option doesn't work for everyone, if you get through the next step and it doesn't work, go back and get the $14.99 option. It will cost you $2 more out of pocket, but you'll get that much more meat.)

4) At checkout, you enter your address etc and you should see the 12.99 burgers, plus the 12 free burgers you got from doing step 2 above. At the point where they ask for payment, you'll see that they add in about $13 for shipping - don't worry, your gift card code will cover that. Before you enter your credit card (or paypal - one of the payment options is "pay by paypal" if that is easier for you), enter your gift card code and hit "apply" or whatever the button says next to that. That should take your total down to roughly $1.98. Then enter your actual payment method and you will only be charged $1.98 (it may be a few cents more or less depending on your address, it was $1.98 for me)

5) Complete the transaction. In a few days you'll be getting a cooler shipment of 5.5 pounds of Steak burgers, which works out to ONLY 36 CENTS A POUND!That is a rad deal for ground beef. They will come as hamburgers, but you can brown them like regular hamburger to use in other recipes. It's not organic beef, but should be high quality and if nothing else you can use it in meals you take to other people or whatnot. It seems more complicated a process than it is - start to finish it only took me a few minutes to do it.

Many, many thanks to Monica and Thrifty Florida Mama for figuring this deal out!

Exciting Mail Today!

I heard a knock on my door today while I was doing dishes, and of course the dog and small boy went nuts. "Mama, somebody's knocking on your door," he says. So I went to open the door and there was a package that the FedEx man had left. I had not ordered anything so I couldn't for the life of me think of what it could be. I opened it, and apparently some time ago I entered a contest for Nivea "Fashion Rocks." I was one of a few chosen to receive a gift pack of sorts. It includes several very cool things. Here are the contents:
